Why Kashmir, why Wanwun

Six reasons families fly home for the wedding.

Wanwun is built for the wedding week

Most destination wedding venues hold the function. We hold the whole week — Maenzraat through Walima, one continuous setup, one team, the family doesn't scatter across the city.

Minutes from Srinagar International Airport

Guests land on the morning flight from Delhi or Dubai and are at the trami by lunch. No Dal Lake traffic, no cross-city dash, no missed Mehendi.

Authentic Wazwan, no fly-in caterer needed

A full 36-trami feast plated by master Wazas — Tabak Maaz, Rista, Rogan Josh, Goshtaba, kahwa from the samovar. Or bring your family Waza and we hand over the pantry.

On-site rooms, no hotel turnover

Bridal suite + family rooms on-site. The bride doesn't commute between hotel and venue. The dulha's family doesn't lose two hours a day to the road.

A backdrop the photographer thanks you for

High ceilings, restrained palette, chinars outside, the Open Garden in autumn light. Pre-wedding shoot locations at Nishat, Shalimar, Pari Mahal are 20 minutes away.

Kashmir as a side-story for the cousins

Shikara rides for the cousins, a day-trip to Pahalgam for the just-marrieds, saffron tasting in autumn — we connect you with the photographers, drivers and operators who do this well.

When to wed in the Valley

The seasons, decoded.

Kashmir runs a long wedding season. The peaks and shoulders, the moods, the photo-album look — month by month.

April

Tulip bloom — the most photographed season

Cool mornings, sunny days. Tulip Garden in full bloom mid-April.

May – June

Wedding-season open. Warm days, cool nights

Pristine green Valley, snow still visible on Gulmarg.

July – August

Lush, monsoon edges, fewer crowds

Slightly rainy in the evenings. Beautiful greens.

September

Shoulder season — cooler, drier

Pre-autumn light, ideal for outdoor functions.

October

Chinar gold — the romantic favourite

The Valley turns orange. Most photographed wedding month.

November

Late autumn, intimate weddings

Light dusting of snow on the higher hills. Cosier indoor functions.

Who we host

The Valley welcomes everyone.

  • Non-Kashmiri couples from Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune drawn to the Valley
  • Mixed-religion and intercultural couples wanting a destination with depth
  • Indian Muslim families from across the country wanting an authentic Wazwan
  • Hindu and Sikh weddings — mandap, saat phere, anand karaj, all accommodated
  • NRI families bringing parents back to their hometown for the celebration

Questions, answered

About a Kashmir destination wedding.

How far in advance should we book?+

Peak months (May, June, October) — book 6–9 months ahead. Shoulder months (April, September, November) — 3–4 months is usually enough. For the most-photographed October chinar weeks, 9–12 months ahead.

Can the venue handle a multi-religion wedding?+

Yes. We have hosted Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and intercultural weddings. Mandap, saat phere, sehra-bandi, nikah, anand karaj — brief us on the ceremonies and we design the rooms.

What is the typical guest count for a Kashmir destination wedding?+

Most destination weddings at Wanwun are 100–300 guests. The two halls together comfortably hold 500+, and the Open Garden under shamiana adds another 200 for the baraat arrival or cocktail reception.

Can we bring our own decorator or photographer?+

Yes — and many families do. We coordinate with vetted local partners on the ground while your team flies in. We have a curated shortlist of Kashmir-based photographers, florists and shikara coordinators if you need recommendations.

Is Kashmir safe for a destination wedding?+

Yes — Srinagar is consistently safe for tourism and weddings. We host weddings every season, with Indian and international guests. Our team handles all on-the-ground logistics including airport transfers and guest movement.
